This item appears to be a sword hilt.

Blade of Radiance. While grasping the hilt, you can take a Bonus Action to cause a blade of pure radiance to spring into existence or make the blade disappear. While the blade exists, this magic weapon functions as a Longsword with the Finesse property. If you are proficient with Longswords or Shortswords, you are proficient with the Sun Blade. You gain a +2 bonus to attack rolls and damage rolls made with this weapon, which deals Radiant damage instead of Slashing damage. When you hit an Undead with it, that target takes an extra 1d8 Radiant damage.

Sunlight. The sword's luminous blade emits Bright Light in a 15-foot radius and Dim Light for an additional 15 feet. The light is sunlight. While the blade persists, you can take a Magic action to expand or reduce its radius of Bright Light and Dim Light by 5 feet each, to a maximum of 30 feet each or a minimum of 10 feet each.

Personality

Damien is an energetic and positive personality, always prepared to laugh at himself and whatever toil he’s bearing. However, he never makes a joke of a serious situation, holding fast to his loyalties and standards. He is confident, calm, and difficult to provoke. To those with whom his loyalties lie, Damien is trustworthy and steadfast. But to anyone else, Damien has a silver tongue and sharp blade at the ready, should he need them. He takes some amount of joy from tricking and out-maneuvering anything or anyone in his way, even to the point that his traps become unnecessarily elaborate or showy.

Goals

Finding and reuniting James with Emma and putting to rest the suspicion of a gate being on Vuronu.

History

Yay, messy bulleted form!!

  • Damien came from humble/poor beginnings. He learned from an early age to leverage his natural charm. Dreamed to travel from boyhood, although he was told it was a unwise persuit.
  • As a young man Damien was unappreciative of his father's constant toil to support the family, seeing only the strain. He took a job at the docks and kept the money to himself despite protest from his parents and siblings. He planned to work his way up from dock worker to ship's captain, some way or another. He focused on fostering good relations with the crews of ships as he loaded and unloaded cargo.
  • Damien became familiar with Jim, Thomas' father. Young teenage Thomas was more interested in tinkering then socializing at the time, so at Jim's urging the two boys met.
  • Damien and Thomas fostered a friendship, both having a need for a good friend and confidant. Though observing Thomas's admiration of Jim and their family dynamic, Demian slowly came to reflect on his own family.
  • Damien continued to work his connections, becoming a sailor alongside Thomas, who was also interested in travel.
  • Many adventures were had. Damien made sure to be known for his exemplary duty, standing out at all the right times.
  • Something significant happens… It would be interesting if this event was partly related to information regarding a gate. Perhaps there is some drama where Thomas first hears of these gates and treated as a threat for his knowledge. A best friend being mysteriously persecuted would be one more reason for Damien to leave the service.
  • aaand somehow Damien comes into possession of The Steadfast, finally becoming a captain, and leaving the military. Issues with his father remained still unresolved.
  • Among other things, Damien used The Steadfast to assist Thomas in his research. More adventures!
  • Before deciding to face his issues, Damien loses his father, and Thomas finds love. Damien hits a very dark period, and takes to traveling on his own with a minimal crew for a time, to find his thoughts. He keeps contact with Thomas via letter and messenger pelican when he has the opportunity.
  • Damien slowly takes to setting out on adventures again, and becomes as an uncle to James and Emma.
  • James and Emma grow into teenagers, Thomas has time for his research again. Convinces Damien to help him pursue the obsidian gate. Damien hopes to find nothing and that Thomas might give up his obsession with the mysterious object.
  • They find the gate in a cavern deep in a desert. Thomas touches it, and vanishes, soon after the cave begins to give way. Damien narrowly escapes.

Development

Bla

Damien get eaten by the Vu-Yunu and DIES. Har har.

Relationships

  • Professor Thomas Haller - Thomas was a lifelong friend and companion to Damien. Each had the other's back, each trusted the other implicitly. Although in some matters the two would become hot-headed, they never found reason to question the friendship between them. Damien seeks to continue his loyalty to this old friend even after his death.
  • James Haller and Emma Haller - James and Emma are like a nephew and niece to Damien. He considers it his duty and responsibility to look after them in Thomas' absence.
