Rebel General Korirava

At the time of the campaign, Korirava is already part of the rebellion against the advanced chromatic. He appears as their leader, although he is in reality just Yorovu / Visovu’s biggest pawn. He is the one that explains the truthful situation to the party in the third act. He is an important character to the campaign in that he embodies the broken & corrupt hierarchical system of his culture.

Formerly Vu-Kukunu Kuriruvu kuriruvu High Guardian of our spirit's future, he is now an exile, living with the Vu-Koko and known to them as Vu-Rayunu Korirava korirava or, The mourning of my spirit.

Note that Kurirava chooses to write the va in his new name as an inverted vu, as a spiteful badge of honor that he has abandoned the corrupt ways of the Vu-Yunu.

Personality

Korirava has a rough and harsh personality. Embittered and broken by life's hardships, he has more concern for his goals then for any one individual. He would not hesitate for even a moment to harm or kill others if necessary to accomplish his task. He has a bad temper and a short fuse, prone to becoming destructive for the sake of catharsis alone. Having lost all hope in others, he acts of his own accord and answers only to himself.

Goals

Korirava desires only for the elimination of those responsible for the corruption of his people, as well as the conversion or elimination of those who would continue to accept such a lifestyle, even knowing the cost. He also seeks personal revenge on Sinusovo for the death of Sasu.

History

Korirava, named Kuro as a child (meaning bright life), was a Vu-Kokoyunu, meaning he had one primitive chromatic parent and one advanced chromatic parent. Despite being a bright, strong child, this meant that he would never be able to rise above the rank of Vu-Kunu, a guard. Well, this should have been the case, but Sinusuvo, a young new high priest at the time, noticed little Kuro. Being of impure blood himself, and therefore in a position he shouldn’t have been in, Kuro reminded Sinusuvo of himself as a child.

The young high priest took it upon himself to raise Kuro and push him to his full potential as a respectable advanced chromatic. By the time Kuro was of age to become a Vu-Yunu, a full civilian, he was strong and highly respected by the rest of his kin. He was given his next name, Sukuyi, meaning he will brighten your future. Sukuyi’s forward personality and dedication to truth and rightness attracted many, and shed a good light on his adoptive father, Sinusuvo. Sukuyi didn’t remain a civilian for long, quickly becoming a Vu-Kunu. Not long after that, with Sinusuvo’s influence, Sukuyi was promoted to being a Vu-Kukunu, a General, despite his impure blood. The people didn’t mind, thinking this an exception to the hierarchical rules. Sinusuvo and Sukuyi – now known as Kuriruvu – were heroes in their eyes, and idolized.

At that time, talk of a growing rebellion was shrugged off as nonsense and heresy by most of the people. Only those in positions of power knew the truth to the claims, choosing not to share it with the civilians in order not to cause panic. Not long after being promoted to General, Kuriruvu was assigned by Sinusuvo the task of finding out about the rebellion, and forming a strategy to twart it. Kuriruvu agreed, eager to uncover the rebellion s leaders and their troublesome plot.

For a while, Kuriruvu struggled though rumors and lies for a real lead. Finally getting a tip from an anonymous chromatic, he had something to work from. The tip lead him and a few of the guards under his authority to a dangerous area of the Black Lands and straight into a trap. They encountered only one chromatic, a Vu-Rayunu (rebel). Incredibly skilled with stealth and her manipulation of the magical element, she easily took down the guards, and then confronted Kuriruvu.

The rebel, named Sasu, didn’t seem to want to kill Kuriruvu. Explaining that she had to kill the guards for privacy, she asked the General to hear her out. Although Kuriruvu was furious and grieved by the death of his guards, he knew it was his duty to uncover more about the rebellion, so he agreed. Sasu proceeded to tell him the story of her life, a chapter at a time, sparing no details. Each time Kuriruvu and Sasu met afterward, he swore to himself he would kill her after she was done speaking. He never did, nor did he share the story with Sinusuvo or anyone else. Kurivuru came to love Sasu deeply.

Sasu planted a seed of doubt in Kuriruvu’s mind, and he started to reconsider everything. Before he could come to any conclusions, however, news of Kuriruvu’s treacherous relationship with a rebel reached Sinusuvo’s ears. Feeling furious, betrayed, and heartbroken, Sinusuvo turned Kuriruvu over to the hands of the people, publically denouncing his betrayal.

Kuriruvu was tortured, stripped, had his Na removed, and imprisoned. He was stripped of all rank and title and emotionally devestated after being forced to watch Sasu's execution. However, Yorovu / Visovu, the spy at the heart of the rebellion, had had kept her eye on him since he was only a child. Hearing from Sasu the details of Kuriruvu’s fall from grace, Visovu recognized right away the great potential he had to aide their cause. With her careful plotting, Kuriruvu was broken free from prison, where he would have died from his injuries. He disappeared for several months and eventually resurfaced amongst the Vu-koko as a zealot for the rebellion re-named Korirava, meaning lowly spirit, carrying the burden of the past.

Embittered and hardened, Korirava went from loving his people to hating everything about them and their ways. He cursed Sinsuvo for ever taking him from his humble roots and helping him to power. He is characterized by the bitter taste left in his mouth for never choosing the direction of his own life. Out of Sinusuvo’s hands, Korirava was now Visovu’s biggest asset.

Relationships

  • Sinusuvo - Although Korirava once loved Sinusuvo as his father and solitary caretaker, he now despises him. In many ways he blames Sinusuvo for the whole of his life, and pins the lies of the high chromatic culture on him alone. Sinusuvo has become his target and object of hatred, giving a face to the enemy for Korirava. He has long since moved past feelings of betrayal, hurt, and grief over the loss of his only family - even on a deeper level he feels nothing but hatred against Sinusuvo.
  • Yorovu / Visovu - To Korirava, Visovu is a comrade and the closest he can get to a friend. He feels a small and vauge sense of loyalty to her, as she was responsible for his breaking free of prison - he is unaware that she, in a sense, caused him to be there in the first place. Still, although she is the closest to him in relative terms, it means very little to him. With his heart broken and mind set on one goal above all others, Korirava is blinded to all other things.
  • Vokovi - Although Vokovi and Korirava come to be similar in many ways, Korirava can barely stand his presence. Next to Vokovi's youthful hope and pure nature, Korirava's ugliness of heart stands out in sharp relief. He finds he is reflected poorly off of Vokovi, and it awakens pain and self-despite in Korirava which he would rather not face. See Act 3: Vokovi vs. Korirava
  • Yoso - Korirava has little patience with Yoso and his slow, cryptic ways. He does respect and believe in Yoso's prophesies, but other then that seems to feel Yoso is often in the way.
