Personality

Vokovi is a bright young chromatic with an earnest and cowardly personality. He’s brave in the sense that he often powers though his own hesitance for stand up for what he believes, but he has the tendency to retract his own actions and become overly apologetic. He has an enduring innocence and implicit trust of those around him, reluctant to think ill of his kin. He would sooner talk himself out of any negative observation of another then confront them or bring up the issue. Although he fears unpleasant interactions, Vokovi is ultimately uncompromising for whatever he feels is an important truth. He has a humble spirit despite being an exceptional young one in many ways.

Goals

Vokovi begins with a typical youthful indecision about his ultimate goals. He is dedicated to an amorphous idea of truth and love, although he is unsure what it means. Upon discovering the corruption of his people, and given he is not broken by the immense guilt, Vokovi comes to have no question in his mind about the situation needing to be resolved.

History

Vokovi is the son of two Chromatic citizens. His mother is a merchant and crafter of earthenware, and his father a guard, both are still alive. They made a modest living together when Vokovi was first born, and were a very happy family. Since early childhood Vokovi displayed great creativity as well as a natural aptitude for illusionist magic. He was able to manipulate not only Ro, but Sa and Va as well. Seeing this, Vokovi’s parents worked to afford him every opportunity for his skills to develop. Thanks to their efforts, Vokovi became one of the most favored dream-weavers among the Chromatic even before coming of age. Although he continues to dream-weave, Vokovi now holds hopes of becoming a guard.

Development

Introduction

The party first comes to meet Vokovi on the morning of their second day among the high-chromatic, setting out on their journey to find James Haller in the second act, the Vault of the Revenant. Vokovi appears to the party as young and compassionate healer and mage, introduced as a ‘weaver’. The party is likely to conclude this is the term for a magic user, which isn’t far from the truth.

Within the Dream

As Vokovi continues to weave the dream which ensnares the party, he is slowly stuck by observations of their actions which make him question his view of them as cattle. In a short time, Vokovi begins to intentionally test the party, creating for them situations which test the party and allow him to observe their virtue, or lack thereof. Nusuvi gets inklings of Vokovi’s misbehaving, and does what she can to try and keep his mind on the task at hand.

Pivotal Conclusion

A New Resolve

Relationships

  • Nusuvi - Beneath his childish crush, Vokovi greatly admires and looks up to Nusuvi. Although she often gives him a cold shoulder or even mild verbal abuse, he considers her to be his closest friend and comrade. Vokovi appreciates her objective and matter-of-fact point of veiw, and uses it as a sort of anchor to reality when he feels swept away by his own questions and thoughts. Vokovi is comforted knowing that Nusuvi is trustworthy and can always be taken seriously.
  • Korirava - Even the kindest and most gentle meet someone who undoubtedly bothers them, and Korirava is that someone for Vokovi. Although Vokovi tries to treat Korirava in the same open and unassuming manner he does everyone else, Korirava can bring out all the worst in him. In short, Vokovi disapproves of Korirava's harsh manner and stubborn-minded solution to the problem they both face. See Act 3: Vokovi vs. Korirava
  • Yorovu - Yorovu was one of Vokovi's teachers, in his youth. Although Yorovu is not particularly guilty of favoritism, she and Vokovi did share a healthy and flourishing teacher-student relationship. Vokovi, being anything but naturally inclined to suspicion, did not predict that his teacher's interest was anything more then eagerness to do her job well. He has respect and affection for Yorovu as is appropriate for an elder. Upon discovering her deception, he would be conflicted, perhaps unbelieving, although empathetic with her cause.
  • Riri RIRI - Riri is Vokovi's dear pet Parrotbeak Squirrel. Vokovi is very attached to the small creature, to a point that a few consider it an unhealthy attachment. She is of average size and sports a red crest surrounded by vibrant green feathers. Upon command, Riri will leave Vokovi's person to perform a task or walk on her own, but she is most commonly tucked into his robe or ceremonial cap. Aside from reciprocating Vokovi's feelings of attachment, Riri has two passions in life, nuts and small reflective objects. In good health, she's generally non-aggressive and somewhat skittish around new faces. Aside from these features, Riri has one unique and memorable habit; she speaks in response to simple empathetic signals she picks up from Vokovi. Although her vocabulary consists mostly of squawks, coos, and clicks, she also knows the words “sorry”, “nut”, and “Nusuvi”. When Vokovi is feeling guilty, it's not uncommon to hear an awkward parrot-style apology from amidst his robes. It's unclear how Vokovi feels about this, but his lack of punishment or reward for the behavior seems to indicate he doesn't mind.
